Limit total Booking Duration

In Cal ID, the Limit total booking duration feature provides high-level control over how much of your total time can be occupied by a specific event type. This setting is designed to prevent a single type of meeting from consuming your entire work week.

Limiting Total Booking Duration

This feature is located in the Limits tab and allows you to set a "time budget" for your bookings.

Why use this feature?

  • Burnout Prevention: Ensure you aren't spending 40 hours a week on "Discovery Calls" by capping them at a specific total duration.
  • Balanced Schedule: If you offer both paid consulting and free networking calls, you can limit the free calls to a total of 5 hours per week to protect your billable time.
  • Resource Management: Useful for teams or individuals who have a fixed amount of time allocated to a specific project or service each month.

How to set it up

  1. Log in to Cal ID account.
  2. Navigate to the Event Types tab in the left sidebar and select the specific event you wish to modify.
  3. Navigate to Limits: Click on the Limits tab in the top navigation bar.
  4. Find the Setting: Locate the section titled Limit total booking duration.
  5. Enable and Configure:
  • Toggle the switch to ON.
  • Enter the maximum number of minutes or hours you are willing to be booked for this event type.
  • Select the timeframe (e.g., per day, week, or month).
  1. Save: Click the blue Save button at the top right.

How it Works

  • Cumulative Tracking: Cal ID keeps a running total of all confirmed bookings for this specific event type within your chosen timeframe.
  • Automatic Blackout: Once the total duration of scheduled meetings reaches your limit, the system will automatically stop showing availability for that event type until the next timeframe begins.
  • Independent Limits: This limit only applies to the specific event type you are editing; it does not affect your other booking links.

Pro Tip

If you have a 60-minute event and set a limit of 3 hours per day, the system will allow exactly 3 bookings for that day. If a user tries to book a 4th slot, they will see that you are "unavailable," even if your calendar is technically empty.
