# Limit total Booking Duration

**Limit total booking duration** sets a time budget for an event type, so one kind of meeting can't consume your whole week.

| Why use it

* **Prevent burnout:** cap total hours spent on "Discovery Calls."
* **Balanced schedule:** limit free networking calls to protect billable time.
* **Resource management:** for a fixed amount of time allocated to a service.

| Set it up

1. Open **Event Types** and click the event.
2. Open the **Limits** tab.
3. Toggle **Limit total booking duration** **ON**.
4. Enter the maximum minutes or hours and choose the period (**day, week, or month**).
5. Click **Save**.

| How it works

Cal ID keeps a running total of confirmed bookings for this event type in your chosen period. Once the total time reaches your limit, availability stops until the next period. The limit applies only to this event type.

| 💡 Tip

With a 60-minute event and a 3-hour daily limit, exactly 3 bookings are allowed per day — a 4th sees "unavailable" even if your calendar is otherwise empty.
